Nathan says:
A step forward and a step back here. The good:
- Removing the extraneous “pirate” imagery helps to focus the cover.
The bad:
- The title typeface is, if anything, harder to read than originally. The font also has kerning issues, especially seen around “y” and “v”.
- The subtitle font still clashes horribly.
- By reducing the size of the main “bitcoin in a chest” image, you’ve lost the added clarity you have it by removing the skull and diamonds and made it harder to “read” visually in thumbnail. Giving the Henry Ford quote more space is a mistake, as it’s not something that be read at anything less than full size anyway.
Recommendations:
- Enlarge the chest like it was on the first cover.
- Change out the fonts entirely, both title/byline and subtitle. Remember with the subtitle that the smaller text is, the more readable the font has to be.
Other comments?
This cover is too hard to read at a thumbnail size. Make your cover readable at a tiny size: starting with bigger, bolder headline. It’s got to be easy for your target audience (buyers and readers) to INSTANTLY read and understand what the book is about.
Ditto what Nathan said.
The overall idea is pretty nice, but some fine-tuning needs to be done.
As Nathan pointed out, the title is very difficult to read, especially at thumbnail size. For that matter, there are one two many typefaces in any case. Keep this simple.
So far as the image is concerned, there is probably at least one too many things going on. The graph on the side of the treasure chest really adds nothing.
The treasure chest itself is far too dark. It is difficult to make out in the large size and all but invisible in the thumbnail.
And while you are at it, the entire image could be at least a third larger than it is now.
Well…I would be happy to comment, but we’ve all said, more than once, that the font requires changing, and it remains unchanged. I’m going to assume that it’s not going to be changed, and therefore, there’s really nothing for me to say.
I’d remove the ghost coin behind the big coin in the chest 😉
I don’t have much to add to what everyone else here is saying except: make everything on the cover bigger. As it stands, your main title and that big coin are the only things currently comprehensible in the thumbnail for your cover. The subtitle, the byline, and that beautiful digital treasure chest also need to be big enough to be legible and discernible, respectively.
