It needs to be dirty and dangerous.<\/li>\n<li>The type is professional and generic. It, too, needs to be dangerous &#8212; their bold and brutal, or wild and untamed (or both).<\/li>\n<li>Red type is always problematic, as there are always contrast issues; as you can see here, readability as the red crosses both dark and light backgrounds is reduced almost to nil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my five-minute redo:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1673\" src=\"https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute-500x771.jpg\" alt=\"bookcover6x9_cream_240-5-minute\" width=\"500\" height=\"771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute-500x771.jpg 500w, https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute-97x150.jpg 97w, https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute-768x1185.jpg 768w, https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute-664x1024.jpg 664w, https:\/\/covercritics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/BookCover6x9_Cream_240-5-minute.jpg 1799w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not completely happy with the font I picked, and I think that the texture I added to the photo ends up being too monochromatic, but hey &#8212; five minutes.<\/p>\n<p>And finally: I know that the text on the back cover is a placeholder, but please make sure it&#8217;s readable, using upper and lowercase.<\/p>\n<p>Other comments?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The author says: Set in the current time, this horror novel follows a serial killer as he stalks his victims.
